About the band
Forrofiá plays authentic forró pé-de-serra music, using traditional instruments: accordion, zabumba (Brazilian drum), cavaco (small guitar), and triangle. The band was formed in 2018, and is on the rise in the forró circuit in Brazil, playing all around the country and now also touring Europe showcasing this unique part of Brazilian culture around the world.
About forró
Forró is both a music style and a dance style that originated in the Northeastern region of Brazil. Like Samba, it has European and African influences. Forró is characterized by its upbeat rhythms, close contact between dance partners, unique steps with lively and dynamic movements in the dance.
It is quickly becoming a popular partner dance worldwide, with classes and festivals available in many places around the world.
Forró in Nijmegen
A community of ‘forrozeiros’ is forming in Nijmegen as well, and we’re very excited to spread our passion for forró (both the music and the dance) through these events!
If you know the forró basic dance steps, this is a great opportunity to put them in practice, feeling the live music in your body. If you are not familiar with the dance (yet), we definitely invite you to experience and enjoy the music firsthand, and maybe you’ll be inspired to try out some steps yourself as well! Just ask anyone on the dance floor, we’re all happy to show you
